The public skate plaza built by Ideal Skateparks in IG Levy park recently hosted skateboarders from across the region for a grand opening ceremony. Skateboarders travelled from as far away as New Orleans and Alabama to attend the ribbon cutting and skate the new public skateboarding facility.
The new plaza is designed to resemble a public space similar to what might be found in a downtown urban core. It features stairs and ledges similar to those found in a downtown plaza where office workers might sit to eat a lunch or read a book. These ledges, stairs, and handrails, however, are built to withstand the punishment inflicted by skateboards, BMX bikes, and rollerblades without chipping or breaking. Street skaters enjoy the aesthetic that reflects authentic street skateboarding terrain found in the natural cityscape.
The IG Levy skate plaza is nestled among the native lodgepole pines, which provide excellent shade for users visiting the park during the heat of the day.
