Ideal Breaks Ground on San Marcos Skate Park Phase 2

Work has begun on the second phase of the San Marcos Public Skate Park. The first phase was constructed two years ago as a street course. The facility proved to be heavily used from the day it opened, so skateboarders had little difficulty convincing San Marcos city leaders that a second phase was warranted.

The second phase was designed by Ideal Skateparks based off of input provided by the Skatepark of San Marcos (SPoSM) steering committee. The popular street course needed a transition compliment, so SPoSM tasked Ideal Skateparks with designing a mini-bowl and a backyard kidney-pool replica. These two features will have a footprint of approximately 8,500 square feet and will be completed later this year.

Ideal Skateparks Breaks Ground in Leander, Tx

Ground has broken on Leander's first public skatepark.

Ideal Skateparks has begun construction of the Benbrook Ranch Public Skatepark in Leander, Texas. The Benbrook Ranch Skatepark, located at the intersection of Halsey Drive and North Bagdad Road, is a small skatepark designed by Ideal Skateparks to blend street skateboarding terrain and a mini-bowl in a 6,500 square-foot facility.

Initial excavation is already complete and Ideal’s build team is preparing to apply lime stabilization to the subgrade. The soil in Leander contains expansive clays, which can wreak havoc on concrete slabs. Skateboarding requires tight tolerances at construction joints, so any uplift of a slab can harm the end-user’s experience. Lime stabilization is a special process introduced to minimize subgrade swelling and reduce slab movement in the finished skatepark. The process adds a modest cost to the overall construction budget, but the results should be appreciated by Leander skateboarders for decades to come.

Third Concrete Public Skatepark Opens in Oklahoma

Broken Arrow public skatepark opens

Just as one longtime youth entertainment center was being torn down in Tulsa, Oklahoma, another was completed in the adjacent city of Broken Arrow. Bells Amusement Park had lost its 50 year lease in Central Tulsa, and its trademark Zingo rollercoaster was dismantled just as Ideal Skateparks poured concrete at the Nienhuis Public Skatepark not more than 10 miles away.

The 12,600 SF Broken Arrow skatepark sports a minibowl and street course with banks, stairs, handrails, and quarterpipes. The grand opening featured a professional skateboard demo by the 1031 Team. The Nienhuis public skatepark is the most northern concrete skatepark in the state and joins the ranks of just two other concrete skate facilities in Oklahoma.
